Hmmm, I see a pattern here. I wrote a blog post last month about various virtual museum tours you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. Now I'm writing a post about attending seminars and presentations from the comfort of your own office. People are going to think I don't want to spend any time with people in-person! Not so, but there is a time and place for taking advantage of online interactive technology.
I think webinars are great. I really enjoy attending presentations on topics in my professional area, but for the most part this would require me to travel to conferences if I wanted to attend in person. However by attending a seminar hosted on the web by one of the many online conferencing tools, there are relevant presentations to intake almost every day! In fact in some respects I almost prefer webinars because there is always a chat screen that allows participants to post questions and discuss the topic being presented on. I often find the chat content as valuable as the presentation. And as a bonus, webinars are almost always saved in an archive file that can be revisited so you can review it later and capture things that you missed or forgot.
Here is my list of websites that I check for upcoming webinars in Ed Tech. Many of them have email digest you can subscribe to as well.
