Online Survey Tools

If you are thinking about conducting a survey for academic research or as a class assignment, there is a plethora of online tools that can assist you in this endeavor and with the collection of your survey data. The tool that you choose will vary depending on the type of data you want to collect and how detailed you want your responses to be. For a quick simple survey, I would recommend a free online tool Survey Pirate.

The only thing required is an email address to create an account and then you should be able to set up your survey without difficulty.

Survey Pirate offers the following features:

  • No limits on survey respondents (or questions)
  • Customizable survey template (add logos and/or slogans)
  • 6 question types: single choice, Multiple choice, Short answer (textbox), Essay, Information pates and Single Matrix Questions
  • Every language supported
  • Spam free
  • Downloadable reports in PDF or CSV file, importable to spreadsheet programs such as PowerPoint excel

Should you require a more features that the ones given with Survey Pirate – you might consider utilizing Survey Monkey. Although Survey Monkey provides more options in tailoring your survey and has 15 question types to choose from as opposed to Pirate Survey’s 6 question options, the drawback with Survey Monkey’s free version is that it limits the number of questions to 10 as well as the number of results that can be collected in your survey in a given month. However, you also have the option to subscribe to Survey Monkey on a monthly basis for approximately $25 CAN without any limitations to your survey.
